**High Water Levels** (Updated 11:30am)

The levels, although still high, seem to have peaked -
So as long as we don't get too much more rain we should be ok.

So far we have only had to close swims 23-33 on Oxlease and swims 20-24 on Brasenose-One as we don't feel they are now safe to fish. We are monitoring all the other lakes.

The whole site is very wet and muddy in areas, our apologies for this but it is something that is out of our hands at the moment. If you are coming down then please bring wellies.

We now don't think that it will come to the point where we have to close all the lakes but we will of course keep you up to speed if any other areas have to be shut.

It is with a very heavy heart that I write to inform you of the passing of Linear Director Len Gurd. Len passed away at the age of 78, peacefully at home this morning, with his loving wife Fran by his side. All of us involved at the fishery are devastated and our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this truly sad time.
Len, for those that didn’t know him, was the founder of Linear Fisheries back in 1973 and in the early 90’s Co-founded ‘Linear Fisheries Oxford’ with family run aggregates company Smiths Bletchington. Len had a wealth of fishing and fisheries knowledge, something which made the joint venture between himself and Smiths very exciting and in turn lead to the successful complex we all know and love today.
You would be hard pushed to find a nicer or more helpful man, a man with many talents, talents that were not just limited to those of the fishing world. I can remember him telling me about a children’s book that he published back in the 1980’s, all about a frog and the story of how he ended up illustrating an early book for comedian, Jim Davidson. Even in recent months, when his health was failing, he found time to write two wonderful new children’s books, books that were illustrated by his equally talented grandson, Luke. He was very proud of publishing these with his grandson!
Len was also highly involved with charity work and through the fishery he helped many charities. One charity, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, had a very special place in his heart, along with that of his wife Fran, as they had both lost their previous partners to this horrible disease. Through the Linear run ‘Fish with the Stars’ events, they raised hundreds of thousands of pounds and made many special memories!
What many of you probably didn’t realise is that he was also the man behind the camera for many of the early carp fishing videos, through his other business ‘The Original Video Company’. Len filmed numerous titles, far too many to list, but to name just a few there was - Harefield Haulin 1&2, Tel & Jacko Go Carp Fishing, Big Cats of the Volga Delta, the Fox Guide to Carp and Pike fishing and the Gardner Carpwise series. He also filmed, and helped direct & produce The Total Fishing programmes that most of us probably watched at some point on the Discovery Channel back in the 90’s and 00’s, in fact I think they are still shown today.
Although Len wasn’t based in Oxford, every week he would show up at the lakes for our fishery meetings, box of cakes or donuts in hand – myself, Roy and Len would then talk all things Linear, inevitably we would go off track and end up listening to one of Len’s many fishing related stories, stories that kept you engrossed for ages. He was always a pleasure to be around and the world of carp fishing has lost one of its best.
Len, you were someone that I took pride in calling a friend and respected as my manager, you were somebody that would always be there if I required advise or just wanted a chat and you will be missed by more people than you could ever have possibly imagined.
Rest in peace, you wonderful talented man – the world of fishing has lost a true gentleman and a legend - Linear will never be quite the same again!
Chris Blunt
Linear Fisheries
General Manager.

**Weather & Ice Update** (10am)

Very little ice about today and the Guys Syndicate has thawed out.

There is however a lot more snow about today. The main roads are pretty good but the back roads are rather iffy and in some rural areas blocked with snow drifts. If you really need to fish, then i'd give it a miss today and see how it's looking tomorrow. Or it would be safer to give it a miss this weekend.

There is no more snow forecast after today and the weather looks to be improving by Sunday, even the night-time temps are picking up. So by Sunday we should hopefully be back to some sort of normality.

**Weather & Ice Update** 10:30am

Probably less ice today than yesterday, but there is still some forming in the small bays and in the margins off the wind.

At the Guys Lake Syndicate - Yeomans is still frozen, Unity Lake starting to free of ice and about half of Gaunts Lake is now frozen.

Same as yesterday - Note that much snow about at the moment bu there is still the potential for heavy snow here and in many parts of the country so please don't travel unless it is safe to do so.

**Cancelled Match Bookings**

Due to the weather and in conjunction with the match organizers we have decided to cancel the match bookings for this weekend. So as long as we don't freeze over and the roads stay free of snow, all the lakes will be open this weekend. More weather updates will follow this morning.
