Monster Catfish!!

13 June 2006

Last Saturday night (3rd June) I was fishing on St. Johns and at about 1a.m. I had a screaming run on my right hand rod. I hit into the fish and spent the next 40 mins praying that I wouldn't run out of line.

When I finally got the fish near the bank I realised that I would need to find some help to land what turned out to be an enormous catfish. Luckily two anglers a couple of swims away arrived and came to my rescue. They also woke up two catfish anglers to help out.

Finally we got her in the net and onto the biggest mat I've ever seen. She went 66 lbs. on the dot and was the most impressive fish I've ever seen. After a well needed rest in the margins she swam strongly away.

It was an amazing experience and one I'll never forget. I'd like to pass on my thanks to the four anglers who helped me out, as I couldn't have done it on my own. It is great to know that there are friendly people around to help no matter what time of day it is.

Thanks - yours sincerely
